In this week's episode, we tackle the very real and current issue of corporations and companies jumping on the bandwagon and supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement. Listen as we break down specific action steps that can be taken to create safe spaces for the black and brown community.

Dive in as we discuss the use of affinity groups, the NFL, and how to best use hiring practices and policies in spaces where social workers, therapists, and healers for the work. At the end of the day, it’s about being seen, being heard, being a human being, and being safe. This whole movement is about being pro-human. Period.

Key takeaways from this episode include:

1. Hire consultants to come in and facilitate deep conversations to unpack bias and privilege and to develop anti-racist, diversity and inclusion practices.

2. Survey employees and staff about what they want to see happen and change. Black people are not a monolith. You need to respect that people are in different places in their anti-racist work and with racial identity development.

3. Move into the stretch zone and stay there for a while. Get out of the comfort zone. Corporations and companies need to step it out and support Black-owned businesses and organizations and activists with confidence.

4. What are the action steps? We need the receipts and the strategic plan that outlines your commitment to an inclusive and anti-racist organization. Be specific where you are donating your money.

5. Per the usual, it’s all about the Benjamins. Ask yourself: are you willing to take a stand with the possibility of losing social media followers, friends, stakeholders, and financial supporters?

6. What up Kap. We see you. Thank you... Jay-Z?

7. As always, continue to do the work. Tonika is rolling her eyes as you read this sentence.
